PopaDex believes your data belongs to you. Export your financial information anytime in multiple formats for backup, analysis, or migration to another service.

CSV (Comma-Separated Values)

How to Export Data
Full Account Export
Steps:
- Go to Settings → Data & Privacy
- Click “Export All Data”
- Select format (CSV, JSON, or PDF)
- Choose date range (all time or custom)
- Click “Generate Export”
- Download file when ready
Processing time:
- Small accounts (<1000 transactions): Instant
- Medium accounts (<10,000 transactions): 30-60 seconds
- Large accounts (>10,000 transactions): 2-5 minutes
Partial Exports
Transaction History:
- Go to Transactions page
- Apply filters (date range, account, category)
- Click “Export” button (top right)
- Download CSV
Net Worth Report:
- Go to Net Worth dashboard
- Select date range
- Click “Export Report”
- Choose PDF or CSV
Account-Specific Data:
- Navigate to specific account
- Click account menu (three dots)
- Select “Export Account Data”
- Download CSV

E2EE Considerations
If E2EE is Enabled
Export process:
- Enter your password to decrypt
- Data decrypted locally in browser
- Export file created
- File saved to your device
Your export contains:
- ✅ Decrypted, readable data
- ✅ All transaction details
- ✅ Full account information
Security note: Export files are not encrypted. Store securely.
Export File Security
Recommendations:
- Store in encrypted folder (e.g., VeraCrypt)
- Upload to encrypted cloud storage
- Delete after use if containing sensitive data
- Never email unencrypted exports
Using Exported Data
In Excel/Google Sheets
CSV Import:
- Open Excel/Sheets
- File → Import → CSV
- Select your exported file
- Choose delimiter (comma)
- Analyze with pivot tables, charts
Common analyses:
- Monthly spending by category
- Income vs. expenses trends
- Net worth progression
- Account growth comparison
In Financial Software
Mint/YNAB/others:
- Check if software supports CSV import
- Map columns to their format
- Import transactions
- Review for accuracy
Note: PopaDex uses standard CSV format compatible with most financial software.
Tax Preparation
For accountant:
- Export year-end transactions (CSV)
- Filter to tax-relevant categories
- Export as PDF summary
- Provide both to tax preparer

Export Limitations
Rate Limits
To prevent abuse:
- 3 full exports per day
- Unlimited partial exports
- 1 automatic backup per schedule
Data Retention
Active accounts: Full history available Closed accounts: Retained for 7 years Deleted accounts: Exported before deletion, then purged after 30 days
Export Size Limits
CSV: Up to 1 million rows JSON: Up to 100MB file size PDF: Up to 500 pages
If exceeded: Contact support for custom export
Troubleshooting
Q: Export download fails
- Check browser pop-up blocker
- Try different browser
- Reduce date range
- Contact support if persistent
Q: CSV won’t open properly
- Ensure using CSV-compatible software
- Check encoding (should be UTF-8)
- Try opening in text editor first
Q: Missing transactions in export
- Verify date range selected
- Check if account filters applied
- Confirm transactions exist in app
Q: Can’t decrypt E2EE export
- Exports are already decrypted
- You entered password during export process
- File itself is unencrypted (for usability)
Best Practices
Regular Backups
✅ Do:
- Export quarterly (minimum)
- Store in multiple locations
- Verify export opens correctly
- Keep encrypted backups
❌ Don’t:
- Rely solely on PopaDex
- Store unencrypted in cloud
- Share exports via email
- Forget to update backups
Data Privacy
When sharing exports:
- Remove sensitive columns
- Use PDF over CSV (less editable)
- Redact account numbers
- Only share necessary date ranges

FAQ
Q: How often should I export?
A: Monthly or quarterly for backups, annually for tax prep.
Q: Are exports encrypted?
A: No. You decrypt during export. Encrypt the file yourself if needed.
Q: Can I re-import my export later?
A: Not yet. CSV import coming Q2 2025.
Q: What if I delete my account?
A: Export everything first. Data is permanently deleted 30 days after account deletion.
Q: Do exports include linked bank credentials?
A: No. Only transaction data, balances, and metadata. Never credentials.
Q: Can support access my export?
A: No. Exports happen locally. We never see export content.
