What is actually in the free workbook
We inspected the exact Basic XLSX served by this site. It contains four worksheets: Net Worth, Monthly History, Asset Allocation and Instructions. Its formulas calculate asset and liability totals, month-to-month changes, net worth and allocation; two charts show history and allocation. A representative input change also recalculated correctly in a disposable LibreOffice copy. The published download was not changed.
| Checked | What we observed | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Balance sheet | Assets minus liabilities feeds the current and prior net-worth totals. | Replace every fictional sample balance before personal use. |
| Monthly review | The history sheet has 24 dated rows, net-worth formulas and a trend chart. | You copy totals into history manually. Blank future rows calculate as zero and the chart plots them, so do not treat unused rows as observed history. |
| Allocation | Cash, investment, property and other-asset rows feed percentages and a chart. | This is an asset mix, not investment advice or holding-level analysis. |
| Connections and currency | The workbook has no bank feed or live market-data connection. | Use one reporting currency. Convert mixed-currency balances before entry and record the rate/date separately. |
| Recalculation check | Changing one current balance by 1,000 increased total assets and net worth by 1,000 in LibreOffice; 57 formulas and two chart objects remained present. | This is a representative LibreOffice check, not certification of every edit or every Excel version. |
| Google Sheets conversion | The exact XLSX converted into a private QA Sheet with four tabs, 57 formulas, no formula errors and both chart objects present. | Visual round-trip comparison found that the allocation legend text and monthly chart category labels were lost. Verify or rebuild those labels. The private QA copy is not the public template. |
The formulas passed conversion; the chart labels need attention
On 19 September 2026 we converted this exact file into a private QA Google Sheet. The API reported four tabs, 57 formulas, no formula errors and both chart objects. A visual round-trip comparison then found that the Asset Allocation legend text and Monthly History category labels were lost. After your own upload, verify the net-worth total and rebuild either chart label set if it is missing. The private QA copy is not the public template, and an older public three-tab Sheet is a different artifact. Follow Google's current Excel-to-Sheets instructions.

Keep your spreadsheet, or start your next review in PopaDex
If Sheets already gives you a total you trust, keep it. Try the app when maintaining balances and checking several accounts has become the part you want to change. You can compare one current snapshot before moving any history.
| Your priority | Stay with Google Sheets | Try PopaDex |
|---|---|---|
| Control your own model | Keep custom formulas, budgets and projections together. | Use the app for balances; keep specialist calculations in your workbook. |
| Start without paying | The Basic XLSX is a direct download with no email, account or payment required. | Standard provides free manual tracking. A template download does not create an app account. |
| Reduce balance entry | Update this template manually. It has no bank connection. | Premium adds optional connections for supported institutions. Check the current price, institution, country and account type first. |
| Preserve your history | Keep the original formulas and dated snapshots. | Start with current balances. Full-workbook, transaction and multi-currency history migration are not supported by the monthly CSV format. |
The inspected Basic workbook and the PopaDex app are separate workflows. Downloading the workbook does not create an app account or include an app subscription.
Check one snapshot before you switch
- Keep a dated copy. Save your existing workbook before changing anything. List the accounts and debts included in its total, along with the date of each balance.
- Start with current balances. Create a free Standard account and enter a few accounts manually. Check the first-account guide. Add all relevant assets and debts before treating the result as your complete net worth.
- Reconcile the total. Use the same date and reporting currency in both tools. Count each account once. Use either the full property value less its mortgage or the equity alone, never equity less the same mortgage again.
- Explain any difference. Check missing debts, stale valuations and exchange rates. Our fictional GBP/EUR review shows how a total can fall even when savings rise.
- Repeat the review. Save your record and choose your next review date. Keep the workbook until you have checked another update and know which paid capability, if any, would save you work.
Can I import my Google Sheets history? Read the CSV limits first
The current importer accepts monthly asset-category balances, not an .xlsx workbook, formulas, individual transactions or a live connection to Google Sheets. The format below illustrates its narrow input contract; it is not a complete net-worth migration file.
Month-Year,Cash,Saving,Pension,Investment,Property,Total
01-2026,1000.00,500.00,2000.00,3000.00,0.00,6500.00
Headers are case-sensitive and must appear in this order. Dates use MM-YYYY. Every amount field must contain a non-negative number, with a full stop for decimals and no currency symbols or thousands separators. The five asset columns in this fictional row sum to €6,500.
Important limitations: this import path treats amounts as EUR and has no debt or currency column. The supplied Total is not checked against the asset columns. Negative values are rejected, so this format cannot represent a balance sheet with separate liabilities.
Do not upload it over records you want to preserve. Importing a month can replace an existing category record. An error in a later row can leave earlier rows saved; a failure message does not mean nothing changed. The app's CSV export uses a different layout and cannot be uploaded unchanged.
For now, use manual entry for your current snapshot and keep historical records in Sheets. Before any historical import, ask [email protected] about the format and your vault setup. Describe the column layout without emailing private balances, account identifiers or the full workbook.
Importer behavior checked September 12, 2026 against production source and local integration tests using fictional records. This does not certify a migration of your workbook or an encrypted-vault import.
Want Automatic Bank Syncing?
The PopaDex app offers optional connections for supported institutions on its Premium plan. Check the current price and your exact bank, country and account type before upgrading. Property estimates, unsupported accounts and other manual balances still need your review.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about tracking net worth with Google Sheets.
How do I track my net worth in Google Sheets?
Download the Google Sheets-compatible .xlsx template, upload it with File → Import, then enter your assets (bank accounts, investments, property, pensions) and liabilities (mortgages, loans, credit cards). The spreadsheet calculates your net worth automatically. Update it monthly to track progress over time.
Is the PopaDex Google Sheets template really free?
Yes. Download the Basic XLSX directly; no email, PopaDex account or payment is required. It contains four worksheets, 57 formulas and two charts. It is a manual workbook with no bank feed or live market-data connection.
Does the XLSX convert cleanly to Google Sheets?
The exact download converted to a private QA Sheet with all four tabs, 57 formulas, no formula errors and two chart objects. A visual round-trip comparison found that the allocation legend text and monthly chart category labels were lost, so verify and rebuild those labels after import if needed. The private QA copy is not a public template.
How often should I update my net worth tracker?
Use a cadence you can apply consistently, such as monthly. Enter Monthly History rows in date order. Blank future rows calculate as zero and the chart plots them, so do not treat unused rows as observed history.
Can I use this template in Excel instead of Google Sheets?
Yes. The direct download is already an XLSX file and opens in Excel without a Google Sheets conversion step. See the Excel net worth tracker guide for the same inspected Basic workbook and its limitations.
Can I move my existing Google Sheets workbook into PopaDex?
Not as a complete workbook. Start by entering current balances manually and comparing the totals. The monthly CSV import has a fixed EUR-only asset format, with no debt column, and can replace existing records. Keep your original file and review the limitations before moving history.
How do I calculate my net worth manually?
Net worth = Total Assets − Total Liabilities. Add bank balances, investment values, full property values and pension balances, then subtract mortgages, loans and credit card debt. Do not subtract a mortgage again if you have already used property equity. For accounts in different currencies, see the multi-currency net worth tracker and its worked currency-conversion example.
