What is actually in the free workbook

We inspected the exact Basic XLSX served by this site. It contains four worksheets: Net Worth, Monthly History, Asset Allocation and Instructions. Its formulas calculate asset and liability totals, month-to-month changes, net worth and allocation; two charts show history and allocation. A representative input change also recalculated correctly in a disposable LibreOffice copy. The published download was not changed.

Published file evidence, not a promise about a different workbook or app import
Checked What we observed Boundary
Balance sheet Assets minus liabilities feeds the current and prior net-worth totals. Replace every fictional sample balance before personal use.
Monthly review The history sheet has 24 dated rows, net-worth formulas and a trend chart. You copy totals into history manually. Blank future rows calculate as zero and the chart plots them, so do not treat unused rows as observed history.
Allocation Cash, investment, property and other-asset rows feed percentages and a chart. This is an asset mix, not investment advice or holding-level analysis.
Connections and currency The workbook has no bank feed or live market-data connection. Use one reporting currency. Convert mixed-currency balances before entry and record the rate/date separately.
Recalculation check Changing one current balance by 1,000 increased total assets and net worth by 1,000 in LibreOffice; 57 formulas and two chart objects remained present. This is a representative LibreOffice check, not certification of every edit or every Excel version.
Google Sheets conversion The exact XLSX converted into a private QA Sheet with four tabs, 57 formulas, no formula errors and both chart objects present. Visual round-trip comparison found that the allocation legend text and monthly chart category labels were lost. Verify or rebuild those labels. The private QA copy is not the public template.

A working balance sheet, not an official form

This page serves the same inspected Basic XLSX as the Excel tracker owner. Use its Net Worth sheet to organise a dated snapshot. If a lender, adviser, court or public body requires a statement, follow that recipient's form, evidence and signature rules.

Use Cases

When You Need a Net Worth Statement

A net worth statement is your personal balance sheet. It shows exactly what you own, what you owe, and the difference. Here's when it matters most.

Preparing for a Loan Application

Use the workbook to assemble dated balances before an application. A lender may require its own form, supporting statements, valuation method, or signatures, so follow the lender's instructions rather than submitting this file by default.

Financial Planning

Use one as-of date and note the source of each balance or estimate. If you share the file with an adviser, confirm what information they need and remove identifiers they did not request.

Legal or Administrative Preparation

A professional or public body may ask for an asset-and-liability inventory. This workbook can help you gather figures, but it is not a legal form and does not replace the recipient's requirements or professional advice.

Prepare the snapshot

Gather dated balances before filling the statement

Use balances from the same date where possible. Record the source and date for estimates so a reader can distinguish statement balances from property, business, vehicle, or collectible valuations.

Current statements

Collect recent bank, investment, retirement, mortgage, loan, and card balances. Use the outstanding liability, not the original amount borrowed.

Valuation notes

For assets without a daily market price, note the estimate date, method, and source. Keep uncertain values visibly separate from cash and quoted investments.

Recipient requirements

If a lender, adviser, court, or public body requested the statement, follow its required form and instructions. This workbook is a starting point, not a substitute for those requirements.

Avoid adding account numbers, passwords, or login credentials. Confirm the recipient and their approved transfer method before sharing a completed file.

Choose a format

Match the template to the job

The right route depends on whether you need a dated working snapshot, recurring monthly history, or a browser-accessible copy. A third-party form remains a separate requirement.

Dated working snapshot

Use the inspected workbook to assemble assets, liabilities, and a calculated total as of one date. Transfer the results to a recipient's required form when one is provided.

Private monthly tracking

Choose the Excel net worth tracker when you want an offline file, editable categories, and a history sheet for monthly comparisons.

Shared or cloud-based tracking

Use the Google Sheets version when browser access and sharing matter more than keeping the workbook solely on one device.

Before you use any template: confirm that it keeps assets and liabilities separate, records the valuation date, shows the assets-minus-liabilities calculation, and lets you explain estimates for property, private businesses, or other assets without a daily market price.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about net worth statements.

What is a net worth statement?

A net worth statement is a dated list of assets and liabilities that calculates assets minus liabilities. A lender, adviser, court, or public body may require its own form, valuation rules, evidence, and signatures.

What should I include on a personal net worth statement?

Assets include: cash and bank accounts, investments (stocks, bonds, mutual funds), retirement accounts (401k, IRA, pension), real estate at current market value, vehicles, business interests, and personal property of significant value. Liabilities include: mortgages, car loans, student loans, credit card debt, personal loans, tax obligations, and any other money owed.

When do I need a formal net worth statement?

A third party may request one for lending, advice, legal, estate, or administrative work. Follow the recipient's required form and instructions; this workbook is only a starting point for organising balances.

How is a net worth statement different from a net worth tracker?

A net worth statement is a snapshot at one point in time. A tracker records a series of snapshots to show change. The downloadable workbook contains a Net Worth sheet and a manually maintained Monthly History sheet; it is not an official third-party form.

Should I include my primary home in my net worth?

For a personal calculation, a home can be recorded as an asset and its mortgage as a liability. If someone else requested the statement, use that recipient's valuation and inclusion rules. The workbook has editable rows but does not calculate a separate investable-net-worth figure unless you adapt it.
