Export and validate before you change anything

Practical distinctions to verify before changing your workflow
Decision What to expect Boundary to check
Platform Use Monarch's web product and current account-level export controls. The exact interface can change; follow Monarch's linked help documentation.
File Monarch documents CSV transaction fields and separate balance-history handling. Holdings, budgets and aggregate cash-flow totals are not equivalent to a transaction export.
PopaDex next step Store the original file unchanged, then enter reconciled current balances manually. No direct Monarch CSV import is promised.

Choose PopaDex when

  • You need a current international balance sheet.
  • You can preserve the old archive outside PopaDex.
  • You do not need Monarch's budgeting workflow reproduced.

Pause or keep the other workflow when

  • You need historical categories or budgets migrated intact.
  • The export does not reconcile to the visible account totals.
  • You have not downloaded supporting statements.

A low-risk trial protocol

  1. Export each needed account or dataset using Monarch's current web controls.
  2. Keep the original CSV files unchanged.
  3. Record row counts, earliest/latest dates and visible account totals.
  4. Create a same-date manual snapshot in PopaDex; do not upload the Monarch file.

Examples are instructions, not customer results. Check balances against your own source records and use one reconciliation date.

Sources and evidence boundary

Competitor details were checked against Monarch Money's official product documentation and its official export/help documentation on 2026-09-19. PopaDex focuses on an international balance sheet; Monarch is the stronger budgeting workflow.

PopaDex plan and product boundaries follow the current pricing documentation, security documentation and the live product. This is a desk review, not an independent security audit or a funded-account test of every competitor feature.
