PocketSmith export guide
How to export PocketSmith data and keep a clean archive
PocketSmith provides separate CSV backups for categories, rules and transactions. Preserve those files as an archive; PopaDex does not currently promise direct ingestion of PocketSmith backup CSVs.

What the PocketSmith backup includes
| Decision | What to expect | Boundary to check |
|---|---|---|
| Path | In PocketSmith, go to Manage, then Backup and restore, and download each required CSV. | Export categories, category rules and transactions separately. |
| Omissions | PocketSmith says backups omit attached files, budgets, filters and saved searches. | Download attachments separately if they matter to your archive. |
| PopaDex next step | Keep the CSVs unchanged and create a reconciled current snapshot manually. | No direct PocketSmith backup import is promised. |
Choose PopaDex when
- Net worth and FIRE are more important than cash-flow forecasting.
- You can keep the PocketSmith archive separately.
- You can reconcile current balances before switching.
Pause or keep the other workflow when
- Budgets, calendars or forecasting are essential.
- You require historical transaction migration.
- Your backup is incomplete or fails to reconcile.
A low-risk trial protocol
- Download each CSV from Backup and restore.
- Do not edit the archive files; PocketSmith warns that editing can affect restoration.
- Record row counts and compare account totals to PocketSmith.
- Enter same-date balances manually in PopaDex; do not upload the PocketSmith backups.
Examples are instructions, not customer results. Check balances against your own source records and use one reconciliation date.
Sources and evidence boundary
Competitor details were checked against PocketSmith's official product documentation and its official export/help documentation on 2026-09-19. PopaDex is narrower and net-worth/FIRE focused; PocketSmith offers deeper cash-flow forecasting.
PopaDex plan and product boundaries follow the current pricing documentation, security documentation and the live product. This is a desk review, not an independent security audit or a funded-account test of every competitor feature.
